Hemorrhoid banding, also called rubber band ligation, is a quick in-office procedure that places a small band at the base of an internal hemorrhoid, cutting off its blood supply so it shrinks and falls away naturally.

Most patients return to normal activities the same day, with mild pressure or discomfort for a day or two. The hemorrhoid typically falls away within about a week.
